5. Carol Vernallis Theory

Carol Vernallis was interested in the camera work and editing of a music video. She made the argument that narrative in music video is not always complete. She also made the claims that
music video's are not always balanced between narrative and performance and that music 
video's don't always have narrative resolution at the end. Lastly she made the point that music video's often pose questions in the narrative that aren't answered in the video. 


Kendrick Lamar - Poetic Justice (Slow Motion and Base Tracks)


In Poetic Justice, there are various scenes of slow motion. Slow motion is something that is now universal, particularly in the music video industry. The use of slow motion in poetic justice sets the tone and is also aesthetically pleasing to watch. Also, in poetic justice, and almost every other music video, there are base tracks (shots that are constantly returned to) of Kendrick Lamar to promote him as the artist.






Kanye West - Heartless - (Obvious edits)

Kanye West uses various obvious edits in his hit song Heartless. There are numerous times in the music video that edits like animation are used. The special effects of the video make it look very pleasing to the eye.








Skepta - Amnesia

In Skepta 'Amnesia' there are various jump cuts. In this generation it is an anomaly to see a music video without jump cuts. Jump cuts are quick, rapid transitions from one scene to another and make the video move on quickly.
