Mobo awards

Tonight was the annual Mobo awards, showcasing the best urban music talent, and has helped elevate black music and culture to mainstream popular status. Live on ITV 1 at 8pm till 10pm.

The likes of Krept and Konan, Stormzy, Section boyz were all there and awarded! Big you up!

It is a lovely thing to see so many artists from the UK rap scene getting the reward and recognition they have worked so hard for. Krept and Konan have become such testaments for the success of UK artists because no one has done it like them. They are huge icon and at the same time they always remember where they came from, which is why they're so humble. talking about being humble, Krept himself was so honest to say that he felt as if Nines deserved to win the award. it just shows that all this success snd money they have achieved hasn't made them bitter or egotistic, they still have the UK collective mentality of always supporting your fellow artists and wishing better for them and also acknowledging their hard work. Adding another trophy to their names. I'm so glad they have won the best album, because it just goes to show that all those sleepless nights in the studio and hard worth has really been worth it. I wish them all the success because they really do deserve it.

However, I'm not here to discuss that, I'm here to talk about the stereotype of how if you're a UK artists, unless you live in London, you are highly unlikely to win a award. Is this true or is this false or is this over exaggerated?

First and for most I absolutely love Bugzy Malone and to say I'm hurt about him not being awarded for at least one of his nominations will be a lie. I'm finding it really hard to comprehend and understand, it doesn't make any sense, it doesn't add up. This is mockery. Right, let me get factual, Bugzy Malone is the most watched UK artist in the music scene at the moment, I repeat, the MOST watched on YouTube! Having views of millions! His dis track to Chip called "Wasteman", in under 2 weeks he had reached a million views! Numbers don't lie! And most his videos have ranging 800,000- 1,000,000 + views.

But we face the simple factor that he's not from London. You could justify this as isolation and its like hitting the glass ceiling of oppression because he cant rise any higher just as how women in society face in the workplace.Whether that's out of context or not, I thought it would be a good example. No one is putting in a much work as he is and its the fact that he himself, knows he has to work ten times harder than these London rappers, as these other city rappers aren't recognised enough. Honestly it makes me sick. I'm so sorry Bugzy, don't worry these "Mobos aint ish!" Which is why Skepta didn't even show up! You will be successful, scratch that, you are successful! It just goes to show that there are so many underrated UK artists simply because they aren't from London and its so frustrating!

It is interesting in the sense that last year the Mobo's awards was critiqued for awarding other ethnic artists. The likes of Sam Smith and Jessie J. As this award is generalised to be showing the achievement of black artists. So when that happened, a lot of controversial things were being said about it. Which brought up a huge issue on race and sexuality. Many claiming that Sam Smith not only won four Mobos because of his colour, but also because he's a homosexual. Whether that's true or not, that a debate for another day. His musical talent shouldn't be justified for either of those elements whatsoever because it has nothing to do with it. Likewise, Jessie J was critiqued for winning best female act, and that being because of her colour. Fair enough I understand that the Mobos is for the evaluation of the black culture and music. But, its main function is to acknowledge the UK music industry on a huge platform. So whether race or gender or sexuality is in question. It shouldn't be, it just causes unnecessary tension in the industry.
