It is interesting how Stormzy is still a independent artist but he is killing the scene! This man is wicked, so talented "Big black ghana man" Big Mike" He is a pioneer to those who want to maintain their integraty and authenticity. He truly does enjoy the freedom of being able to do what he wants when he wants. He doesn't have no label playing him as a pupet and he is so true to himself.
It's typical to hear people say that once a artist has made it onto a label, they have sold out. Which is reference to "selling your soul". Many people proclaim Krept and Konan as doign just that. On a personal level, it frustrates me. Look at all they have gone through in their person life and they have used that as motivation to strive to be the very best at what they do and to reach the top. Though they are no longer independent artists, they are now signed and more mainstream.
But this is not what the post is about. I want to talk about the real underground independent artists. I abosolutely love undergroud artists. Their music is so raw and so underratted its actually upsetting. It so hard to to come up in the UK for some reason. My Cousin is a prime example. He has his own unique style that will soon be discovered. He's sponsered by Adidas just like the likes of Stormzy. And has made songs with Stormzy too.
He is so musically talented and deserves so much recognision, but its because unlike many artists, he doesn't rap about the typical things. He has his own unique style that will soon be discovered.
As I know him on a personal level, this young man is well educated, leaving primary school, secondary school with amazing grades and also studied English Literature at university. Which I believe has influecne his unique style. As he's so well educated, he can explore different ways of expression his lyrics. Using ambiguity and so forth. So young, so talented, I literally can't stress this enough, take a look at his Daily Duppy.
I feel as though, so many artists should be seen for what they do, because it causes issues like the well known artists stealing materal from them, but no one can say anything about it. It also devalues the artist because its as if the artist's work isn't apprieated. They are artistic and great at what they do.Though its hard for them to market themselves in such a difficult industry. Just as Chip says "get signed won't necessarily help." It's hard to change the style of your music just to be popular in the industry, which is why so many underground artists are somewhat left in the shadows.
Great examples of amazing underground artist.
