Improvements needed before final deadline. By Esther

We need to colour correct our shots, to make it more gloomy and depressing like. To present the atmosphere of depression/loneliness/grieve. As this is really symbolic for this music video, it amplifies the meaning and makes it all heart felt. This is because some of the shots we have taken are far to bright. Whiles some also need to be brightened. For example, the church scene is far too dark and its really hard to see things

We also need to look back and change some of the shots to make them seem more matched up with the hand guestures and body languages, which is speficially for the last scene with all the artists together.

Progress review blog.

My blogging work as developed so much over time. I try to blog as frequent as I can and to be honest I do find blogging this year so much fun. It consists of research that I am willing to do and things I enjoy. I could just sit back and watch a music video and blog about it, simple things like that makes it so much easier. My use of technology with using different apps to represent my work make it the more fun, as I get to develop my ITC skills as well as work of my typing/writing skills. To make sue that I make sense and it is a interesting as can be, because this is in fact a blog so it has to be somewhat entertaining. I feel as though I'm doing a good job at it as well.

I make sure that all my blogs, whether they are short or long, they have to be detailed, I try my very hardest to not miss out on any detail whatsoever. I do this by reading it through as I go along, then rechecking it for little spelling errors or grammar issues. Another way in which I also make sure it is detailed is by asking myself question that the person reading it could potentially ask, therefore doing back and clearing out any misunderstandings or any information I have failed to mention. Other than that, the detail level is on point I must say. During the pitch we has to research so many things, this helped to make sure that detail was on point, as we had to then present out findings to the rest of the class and teacher(s). This factor contributing it making sure ever element well looked into and nothing was missed out on. In terms of the planning, the detail levels was good as well, we developed a draft storyboard, then a final storyboard and a story-shot-list, which enlisted every little shot and detail, as well as making it visual via storyboard. However, we didn't make an animation storyboard which could have been so much better, but other than that it was all fine. Due to paying close detail on the aspects of research and planning, this inevitably made the construction stage simple for us, it was all about putting everything together and making the necessary alterations.

I am extremely happy with the amount of individual blogging I have managed to do, as well as my groups as well. I have managed to maintain the level of hard work and effort with both my individual and group blogging. Due to this it has made progress with this subject gradual but worth it. I also have completed all the targets I had set myself and ever before they were due, they were all done.

45/107 Blogs I'm tagged under are my individual blogs, however, the majority of the group blogs I have created and made by myself with no help whatsoever, which now when I come to think of it I'm making it easy for my whole group when in fact it should be a group effort not just my own.

Insightful note

As we have come very near to the final product of our music video. It is also a good thing to see whether or not we have stuck to the storyboard we originally came up with. First and for most, I would like to see it is always a challenge to stick directly to a storyboard, as you have to bare in mind that, as storyboard is in fact an idea that hasn't yet come to life. We see it all the time that storyboard are just a work frame to work with, in order to give the product some form of structure and set a clear task at achieving it or something near to that.

We have tried to stick to the storyboard as much as we could, but at times that was even difficult. Which led us to have a few altercations put in space. Nevertheless, we have successful stuck with most of the storyboard, whiles some were changed. It is one thing to have an idea and purely stick to it and another thing to actual accomplish it. I would say we were fairly successful regardless.

The plan was that as you see above, to have shots of our artists at their various location. However, when we started editing, we realised that it would be more effective if we were to Show some roses, so there is a literal connection from the song and the lyrics. Also we added shots to introduce the religious empathises as well, by allowing the audience to see some of the statues we saw at the Church. We also used a skyline type of shot, as it was rainy. cold and gloomy, it was a pathetic fallacy. Therefore, I felt that it would be more effective this way other than the way I first created the storyboard. It just gives so much depth than what it would have been if we had done it the initial way.

With the image above, we tried to stick to that the best that we could. We kept Kwabz bit the same, but obviously not with the same perspective as the shot-list. This is due to the fact that, whiles we were filming, as much as we tried to do everything precisely as the storyboard, that wasn't so easy. So rather than trying to stick actually to that. I started calling out the type of gesture and facial expressions for him to do whiles he was lip syncing the lyrics. Therefore, making everything look more authentic and nature. We also managed to get various types of shots, ranging from close up, extreme close ups, wide shots etc. So when it came to editing, what we had to focus on the most was trying to match the hand movement to each other, because we can't have a shot where his hand is raised to his head then the next he's holding a glass. It wouldn't make any sense, which is why the way we transition shot from shot had to be right. It wasn't so easy at doing so either.
In terms of the shot where it talks about the performer, we didn't use that whatsoever. Instead we used that part to introduce Estelle to the audience. Which shows her singing and walking along, whiles the scene jumps from her in the church with the performer and her by herself walking/singing. It was effective in the sense that we have now used a variety of locations and made it clear to the audience who Estelle is and the link to the religiosity. We also took out the shot about the church window being shown and the roses blowing in the wind, as we used the roses at the start of the music video and chose not to use the shot of the church window, as we are already seen there with the artist and performer. The last shot on the list wasn't used either. This is because there was already a scene with a family photo(Kwabz') so to reuse that would be too repetitive.
We stuck to Kapone looking into the distance, however this was shown through out his scene. Where he's looking out the window rapping. whiles there's a transition of various angled and close shots. To show his facial and body movement from a different view. However, we eliminated the use of the prop of the phone, as we when we were filming we just thought it was just doing too much. So that also means the element of showing his cousin calling him was no longer needed as well. As it just would have been hard to achieve, so we made it easier for ourselves and just empathised it through the use of body language. Where it talks about Estelle walking and singing, that element is also taken away, so rather than that, we introduce the scene with all the artists much sooner. It just looks 100 times better.

With the image above, we have such to most of it, but when it talks about just Estelle walking and singing, we had changed that wiles editing. This is because, instead of that, we incorporated all the artists in that whole last chorus, rather than having her singing than bringing in all the other artists. As this was, it made editing so much easier for us and it just looked so much better. It symbolised the unity of friendship/family/brotherhood/sisterhood at a time when so much things are uncertain after losing someone so close to you. So it sent a message that one should never feel or be alone at a time of such misery as it will do you no good and that there are always people looking out for you no matter what. In terms of the ending, we no longer use the walking away element and placing the roses down. This is because time wasn't on our hands. We didn't have anymore time to spend of filming, we had to crack on at editing. But either way both the endings, the one form the storyboard and the one we then chose to use was both as effective. When the singing finishes the camera is panned down to the ground, where the rose is then seen at the end of the music video.

Overall, whether or not we chose to fully use the storyboard or not, the music video we have produced so far still does a great job at showing our interpretation of the lyrics and it looks good so far. Hopefully the changes we have made have made what we thought to be the real deal, a even better one. Now time to finish off this thing and finally be at peace.

Review of rough cut from target audience by Esther

Class feedback from What we have managed to do so far by Esther

Here's a clip of the feedback from our class about what we have come from the rough cut till now.

What we have gathered from here is that our editing of the sequence is clear. So the audience has established a understanding for what message we are trying to convey, which is loss. I understand that at the scene with al three artists, you can't always see the faces of them all, due to the height difference. Estelle and Kapone are so much shorter than Kwabz which we had difficulties of trying to avoid, however, that wasn't the focus of that scene. It was so see them all together to symbolise unity at a time of need. More so, notice that the camerawork was more focused on Estelle as she was actually singing. Which is why the boys heads are somewhat cut off as well at some parts.

We have deliberately broken the 180 degree rule, as the other shots that we took didn't come out as planned and the use of breaking the rules allowed us to show the audience whatever it is they were looking at from a different angle, this causes them to pick up a new perspective and it gives the music video a big of ambiguity. Hopefully captivating our audience.

In light of the feedback, we will look to edit the last shot to get rid of the dead space issue we currently have. And cut it together quicker, which means applying the cross dissolve at a earlier time. We will also work on adding more slow motion effects on Kapone's scene, as it creates more empathises and looks wicked by really showing the depression the lyrics is creating.

So from this feedback, we went back and switch the scene where it first showed the performer than the artist, to showing the artist than the performer. At it made it clear as to who is who. Establishing the ground of artist and performer/actress.

Filming by Esther

Today we went out once again to film at the local Church. What we done was tried to recreate the shots that we had taken on Monday. We even got more shots done as we decided to get even more different angels.

It was successful for us because we didn't have any issue with the camera(Thank God for that). However, one issue which really isn't much of a big deal, but I should still point out is the lighting. There were times where the Lord blessed us with great natural life seeping through the window. But its not much of a big deal, as Churches tend to be quite dark, the image is clear enough to work with and if needed we can fix this issue via editing, by putting up the brightness.

Here's the link to the photos we managed to take today

She's done it again

Adele's long awaited return as finally come and with a bang. She literally disappeared from the face of the earth after killing Skyfall, that was used in James Bond Skyfall. Focusing on nurturing her son, graduating university and undergoing vocal cord operation, which in turn was successful. Now she's come back with her debut album 25. What is so appealing about her is that she's from north London, as am I, it just goes to show that no matter your background or where you grew up, you can make something of yourself, even beyond your wildest dreams. She is a prime example of this and she really does shine through all she does. This album is striving so much and it shows that even when she disappears, she can come back like she never left. Can you believe, she's been gone for four years.

It doesn't come as a surprise that she has gone on to break records. Already selling 2.433 million copies in the space of a few days. There is no denying her talent, she can sing! Here's an article from the BBC briefly explaining what she has just achieved.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/34918541/adeles-album-25-breaks-us-record-previously-held-by-nsync

Due to show amazing she is, she has chosen to not have any streaming of her music (as in having it streamed everywhere), it won't be accessed from the likes of Spotify and Apple music for the mean time. This was also done by Taylor Swift with her album. This may be a biased view as Adele is a UK artist and Taylor isn't but US artists are so overrated, when you compare the two, Adele stands out more than Taylor, Adele has raw talent that overpowers the likes of Taylor. Yet that still hasn't had an bad impact to her level of her record selling. In fact, you could argue that it has influenced more people to buy her album. As it means that you will by it to really appreciate her music.  You can buy her album from the following:

Or you can go out to purchase her album is stores in a CD.
This is made possible as she's a mainstream artist, therefore she definitely has the money to support her to fund having her product in different formats and outlets. She is able to have fully expose of her world on a global platform, unlike independent artists who would struggle and be highly dependent on the social media to promote and outlet their products.

AMA Awards 2015

Last night we saw the return of the amazing AMA Awards! The American Music Awards (AMAs) is an annual music awards show,  that was created by Dick Clark in 1973 for ABC when the network's contract to present the Grammy Awards expired. Which is unlike the Grammys, which are awarded on the basis of votes by members of the Recording Academy, something which I didn't know until doing some research. The AMAs are one via public/fan polls who vote through the AMA official website.

Here we have those who won awards last night:
You will be able to view them via this link http://dropshots.com/estherdjimo#.VlSkRVI2BcU.blogger
and also the official AMA Website http://www.theamas.com/nominees/2015-nominees/

How I found out about this was completely random, I was scrolling down my news feed on Facebook and as I follow Capital FM, they has posted something up about the AMA, talking about the outfits people wore there. Which led me to decide to make a post about it, as I made a previous post about the Mobos Awards here in the UK. So why not be cross cultural and talk about the American award.

Most the videos from this have been removed due to copyright issue on Youtube.
But here are links to some of the performances:
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/watch-justin-bieber-sing-in-the-rain-during-2015-amas-finale-20151122

Booty icon singer Jennifer Lopez was the host of the awards and she did an incredible job of it. With her amazing outfits and wicked dancing skills, she was a sight to see. She brought sexy back to the AMA and completely captivated her audience throughout. With her charming personality and beauty. opening the show with a explosion of moves. You can see this in the link below:
http://www.justjared.com/2015/11/22/jennifer-lopez-dances-to-2015%E2%80%99s-biggest-songs-for-amas-opening-video/

One thing that I love about this a award show is that they actually give awards to artists that aren't also from the states. the likes of One Direction won an award. And there is a lot more appreciation given to UK artists in contrast to the BET awards. It is also on a much bigger scale, more credibility, so it means that most the artists and guests there are really up there within the entertainment singing, whether they are a actor/ress, singer, rapper, producer etc. This award is given so much effort and time due it being one of the first awards for the new year that's about to star. It good to see talent being recognised. As well as One Direction getting an award, they also performed too.

Reshooting the church scene

After we finally got the location we desired, the footage was reviewed and it turns out we cannot use it. While the camera men (myself and Tolu) held the camera incredibly still and filmed various shots, from various angels, some still and some moving , the screen at the side was always jumping about up down left and right. At the time we didn't think much of it but after seeing the footage on the mac we saw the shaky screen affected the actaul footage. As a result the videos also jumped about the screen all the time aswell.

This is quite frustrating since it took us ages to find somewhere to film. We were constantly rejected, ignored and at one point we where even chareged. So the fact that we finally found somewhere to film and now the footage can't be used is very annoying.

So now we have to wait for a reply from the church to see if thwy will let us use the church again this coming wednesday during our hour and a half media lesson. If they do we will get a better camera and re film the whole thing however that still leaves the issue of finding someone to be in the place of our friend who was praying in the church while Esther sang in the background. If they can't allow us again then that means that we have to either use old footage or somehow use the current shaky one.

Notes for evaluation question 3

How did media technologies in construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

Camera:
During the production(construction), it was crucial for us to be able to use this equipment independently and together as a group. Considering that I was in a group of only three, that meant that some days only two of us will be able to film or vise versa. This was a useful attribute to have as it would allow our work to not look amateur like, considering that we are also in A2, our use of camera should be so much better than what is was in the previous year. I for one, can happy say that my skills with using a camera has improved so much, my filming looks so much better and they tend to come out just as I wanted it to. However, there is always room for improvement and I hope to get even better over the years to come.

Managing production schedule:
Throughout the planning of the production we had to produce a production schedule in order to keep track of our progress with filming the music video, I produced a production schedule that I made sure was detailed. Later on, producing a TimeToast, so that all the information was on one post, making it easier to present and showing the development over time. Though it was briefer than the actual first production schedule I produced, I found it useful to see what was needed to be done at a faster rate. This was especially useful because it was easy to access for the teachers to see that we were actually using the time wisely and for the other members of my group, it stopped them for constantly asking me what we were going to film on the separate days, and whether some days were not able to film as something may have come up.

Presentation of work:
Throughout my research I tired to use as many different types of technology in order to present my work. As last year I used a lot of Microsoft Words Power Point, though it was good, it wasn't as entertaining and attractive as other kinds of presentation formats. Which is why I tended to use a lot of Prezi presentations. This is because it was much easier to use because of how you can directly embed the work once you are done. Whereas PowerPoint, you will have to completely remove it from the blog to alter mistakes then replace it with a updated one (this is because I used screenshots, rather than making it into a video clip). Another thing I grew to frequently use was ThingLink, I really do enjoy using this, it makes things visual as you are able to show them what you see and put annotations wherever you want with your ideas or interpretation. This was extremely useful for research when I was looking at real time artist ancillary work(albums/websites), also when it came to the initial idea where I got my inspirations from music videos that have already been created. I was able to add in detail and how we can try to use that in our own product. Another method was embedding videos. This was useful when we did the research about Carol Vernalis and Andrew Goodwin, because I was able to show expects of their theory within actual music videos, therefore showing that their theories still relate to things today, it's not just an ideology that has died over time, it still remains today. I have also enjoyed using Gifs this year. Last year I really did struggle to use them, which is why I felt my work lacked life and energy. Gifs were good at showing my sense of humour and in some cases making my research more interactive. I used a lot of screenshots, which was useful when giving important information, like response emails and specific elements when researching music videos.

Social media:
Using social media sites to show that we were actually doing what we were meant to was useful. I created loads of Snapchat videos whenever we were out filming. Another social media site I actively used was Flickr, this was where I was able to store all the images and videos from the days of filming, in a way documenting and providing evidence of ur filming. It was important for us, in order to stay in contact with our group via Whatsapp, so that we know where to meet and what not. Likewise for keeping up to date with our teachers. In terms of researching our target and wider audience, social media gave us a platform to work on. As it has so much accessibility and its so easy to interact with other people, for instance when I did the research about what the audience expects to see in a music video of that genre, I was able to turn to Whatsapp and ask a few of my friends, as well as use sites like TicketMaster to read few comments of reviews from our artists shows. Giving me a feel of what they expect to see and how we can hopefully achieve some of the things that they said. Another social media site we frequently used was Twitter, we tweeted photos of us filming whenever we could, as evidence to what we were doing.

Editing software:
Throughout the editing stages, we used Premiere Pro, which is so much easier and better than Final Cut Pro, so thanks God for that! This software allowed us to professionally editing our work into a realistic music video. It has various effects and things to make that made the music video more visual. We also used after effects, though PP has good effects, After Effects provided a even bigger platform of different effects that we could pick form and play around with.

Editing of ancillary work:
At this stage we were able to use PhotoShop. A global software that's used to edit images. Allowing us to successfully portray the synergy we initially wanted, which was the praying gesture. This is seen in both the music video and ancillary work. It was also useful at helping us try to stick closely appealing to our target audience as well as we could. We also used Wix to create our website for our artists.

Internet research:
YouTube was literally my best friend, that was what I turned finding good example of music videos. Likewise with Google, I used the search engine frequently to help me guide my findings and bring me to different websites that will hopefully help me out.

Where you stored your work:
Blogger was the website that we have used to construct all of our work and store anything we have done, it will be used to present our work and organise things.

Use of animatic/digital storyboard:
Though we didn't use it within our work, I did try it out but found it ab it long to do it so I didn't bother, instead I made sure that the paper storyboard was as detailed as possible and it was also backed up by the use of storyboard shot list.

The lord is with us, literally!

Response from them
Thankfully, we are able to film again at the church. As I emailed them and they responded very quickly. Which you will see above. We have faced so much trials and tribulations for this location, but it seems like the man upstairs is hearing our cries. To say I'm happy would be a understatement.

Which is why we will be able to film on Wednesday during our media lesson and hopefully this will be the last time in which we actually have to, then we can finally get on the way with the editing.

This means we have re-shoot everything that we shot today within the time given to us and hopefully there isn't any other shocking news that we will have to face.

OH NO!

Going through the footage we captured today, I noticed that our footage was extremely shaky. Which is so disappointing, as we finally got the location and to only find out that something went wrong. The location was perfect, the shot had great light and clarity.

Due to this, we can't use the footage, so now it leaves us with two options. We can either try and get permission again to film at the church, or we just use the footage for that scene that we already have, which is seen in the rough cut where you see Estelle De La Rose walking and singing. Though this is a great shot, it's not the one we initially wanted to use as our final product.

This is why I have emailed the church once again to try get permission, so hopefully we will be able to use the church once again and without a faulty camera.

The issue that was found was that a previous group had the same issue but because it only occurred once, it wasn't much of a concern, so now that is has happened for a second time, it means there is something up with the camera. And I know that the shaking isn't from the boys behalf, as it wouldn't shake as it did.

Email sent to the Church
But we will take this on the chin, and learn from this. To check the camera before you use it. I'm just glad that I checked this sooner than later otherwise, things would have gone down south. We would most likely not be able to re-film this, so at least that's a positive note about this sad event.

Now it's just the waiting game with have to play out and only hope for the best outcome. Let the force be with us.

As promised, here's a short clip I took after I noticed the issue.

It turns out the camera would click and because of this, it will move the frame either up/down/left/right at a very rapid pace, I tried to use warp stabilizer to try and see whether it could still be used, but even that didn't help the situation, as it was still visible.

Filming by Esther

Today we went out to film at the local church near our college and it was a very successful session. The location fit well with the concept we were trying to achieve and it just looked beautiful.

The use of costume was great at presenting the atmosphere of sorrow. This is because we were dressed in dark colours, that representing mourning and depression. It was also a contrast to the church itself, as the church was fairly vibrant and full of live. Therefore showing the difference between happiness and sadness.

Our performer was amazing, shout out Anike for helping out and making the scene. We asked her to participate within the scene, as she herself, is a very religious person, so acting as though she was praying was second nature to her. She was so in character and you could honestly feel the sorrow she was presenting. It was radiating through the room. It wouldn't have been half as good without. Thank you so much girl!

We also managed to gather some cool shots of the scenery. As the church has various statues situated around the place. Which we could use in the opening of the music video, to show the link to religion, as well as show another location.

We wasn't disturbed whiles filming which helped us remain focus. This was also because of how we went to film at lunch time during our free time. So because if this we had a much shorter time to film it, as I had a lesson afterwards.

The people themselves were so welcoming and friendly, they just let us get to it. I'm so thankful for them for allowing us to film there in the first place.

Here's the link to show some of the things we managed to do today.

Timetoast by Esther

This was created to simply the view of how all the filming was doing and to clear out the production schedule, as it's evident that we didn't exactly stick to it, so it had to be adjusted so many times.

Our rough cut

However, due to copyright issues YouTube won't let the song play, it has been muted.

We will be altering the scene of Estelle, with a mixture of the church scene and the other scene already there. As we didn't have the chance to film it at the moment but we will have it done within the upcoming days. Which we are excited for, as that means we can finally be on the way of finishing this project. Another than that we will also be colour correcting the scene and sorting out the sequence of our music video.

Good news!

After the stressful uncertainty we face because of not being able to get a church to film at, we can finally do the scene!

thankfully, one of the local churches around the college, called me back after leaving a voicemail requesting permission to film at their church. And they finally responded after all was lost, literally. Talk about luck!

This means that on Monday, Joel and myself and another student, we go to finally film the scene at the church. And after that will can finally get all the editing for the rough cut sorted. So happy, because we was so stressed out about it, it just seemed like it wasn't going to be done, but I guess the lord heard our prayers.

Progress so far 20/11/15

So far we have done the majority of the music video to perfection however we have hit a little road bump , something that is of importance to the group's video. However I shall be reviewing what we have done so far before talking about what is left.

We have completed the first part of the song, the verse done by Kwabz. This was done in my home a few months back. In this scene we see Kwabz drowning his sorrows in alcohol, looking at a picture of himself and Kevin from when they where younger. He begins to rap about how he this verse is for Kevin, how the doctor said he has a few weeks left, and how he is going to raise awareness for Kevin and how he is sorry he couldn't save Kevin. This scene was powerful because you could see the pain in Kwabz face, the anger he felt. With this scene, the lighting and scenery was perfect as well as the costume. He wore a housecoat, old T shirt and Jogging bottoms. His hair remained un cut and his beard was rough and rugged. This showed the fact he had lost all hope and faith in everything since losing Kevin.

The 2nd scene was Kapone's scene done at the sky garden. This was shot a few weeks back. In this scene Kapone is seen looking out the glass over the huge shot of London. The grey sky matches his mood, as his verse reflects what he feels about Kevin. Some of the things he says include 'Family over everything, what i'm talking about Family is everything.' He was clearly upset, and missed Kevin a lot. In this scene Kapone is wearing a Nike Tracksuit and a New York Cap.

We have also done the ending scene which was done at Alexandra Palace on the 17th of November. In this we got a lot done. We did an individual shot of Esther , walking along a path of White and Red roses while singing. She often looked up at the sky while singing. There was also a scene in which we were all together at the end for the final part. We stood in front of a fountain and the camera man took shots of us performing the final part from various different angeles.

However there was a part we struggled with the chorus after the first verse. This was because we had planned to do a church scene. Unfortunately the churches we mostly contacted ignored our request and the only one that did openly offer us a place to use inside their charge, said they charged £55 per hour as a discount price. So instead we have used an older clip we took 17th in place of that one. This saved us time and while we were not able to have the scenery we originally wanted, we have managed to put something good there. Now we can fully begin to edit our music video with no more distractions.

Music industry and Film industry.

Being part of either of these industries is such a great thing for artists whom are multi-talented. You are able to merge into both industry and become such a massive icon. This is evident is so many artists and actors today. They have so much flow of money and fame it's crazy.

Where it is seen throughout the world.

Here you see the UK's very own Idris Elba. UK east London born and bread, has made it massively in Hollywood, paving the way for many other UK actors to try to get to his level. Such a beautiful man and he's so Hollywood yet so London. Such a Icon. Incredibly talented and just seems like he has a good heart. In the music video below, you see that due to his stardom. he as access to work with musicians that are up there in the charts whether they are in Hip Hop, Pop, Afro etc.
As well as Rapper T.I. Has used his stardom from the music industry to help build up a acting career. And to be honest, that wasn't a bad idea, he's actually quite a good actor I must say.

Though you can't see Chris brown in the art of the film, he's also featured in the film but dies. Now this man is soooooooo talented. In a previous post I talk about how he's an actor, as well as a artist and actor. This man right here is just amazing. I absolutely love his music, as well as his acting and art. He really does how to show off all his attributes. Yet he's so underrated because of his past mistakes. He's just trying to sing himself and learning to take responsibility for his wrongs.

Justin Bieber Purpose Album Review

I have finally had the time to sit down and listen to Justin's new album called Purpose.
I love the album art, to me it shows him trying to find himself, its as if he's mediating. The use of the black.white/grey filter adds to the effect that he's still a working progress, as it doesn't have colour. With all the symbols, I don't know wha they mean but they do look call. The name of the album as well is in such a beatuful font, at first I didn't realise what it said until I remembered the name of the album, and that being Purpose. He is trying to find his purpose through all the life experiences he's going through, whether its a good one or a bad one. He's taking it all on the chin.

Here's a song from the album that pretty much, before the song starts, breifly explain the events that influence this album.

My views on the album. As I'm quite a open person and I don't have a specific type of music that I listen to. I have always liked him music, from when he started off till now. He's only a few years older than me, so I kind of understand most the things he sings about. He is living proof that you can changed. It hasn't been easy for him emerging in the music industry. He has always experienced so much hate and that upsets me, because come on the boy actually has talent. People are too quick to label someone as aweful or what not and not give them a chance to prove themself or make a right from their wrongs. He's only human, give the boy a break.

This album really does show his maturity. He understands and is learing from his mistakes like I've previously explained. He's learning to take more responsibility. We have all seen the phrases he's gone through.

You can find his music literally everywhere, As he's such a big mainstream artist under the wing of Def Jam Records, known for all there awesome artists such as Rihanna/Jay Z/Kanye West and video games. You can access his music from Youtube, Itunes, Spotify, Google Play, pretty much anywhere, as the platform he's on allows him to have his sound anywhere at any given time and space.

My favorite song from this album must be Company. The song is so catchy, although I'm sad that he isn't actually in the msuic ivdeo, but nevertheless the performance in the music video is so good The song its self is so catchy. I just love it. Big you up Justin. The style of his ancillary work, works well with the music video that have been produced. Most ofthem consist of him showing how he's trying to find himself or his way. It is really easy to link the two together. The songs themself also help to shoe his journey of self development. It really does show him reflecting over having such a long time to think and grow. Overall, it is clear to see that I really do like this album and everything about it. Wishing Justin the best with this. Which you can tel lin the article below, it talks about him reaching the top of the 100 Billboard for the first time. It just goes to show that he's back and he's winning. Oh deary me

As I previously mentioned on the the post about Difficulties. Though we have solved the issue about it. It turns out that the camera was tampered with so the setting on the mic to pick up noise was disabled. Which brings on a rven bigger issue. Due to this, our recording will lack sound, meaning that trying to get the precise lip sync will be a task.

However, the good thing about this is that we at least got the footage done and the footage itseld is very well recorded and I am able to spot most of the words I was singing, so though this will be a challenege, I am looking forward to getting it sorted and finally being on our way to our end product.

Let the force be with us. I have faith that all we good well.

Another issue we are facing is the church scene. We still don't have a church we can actually film at, so by the looks of it, I think we might just call that quits and rethink that whole scene, and maybe try to make it a bit simplistic.

This is so stressful, but all will be done soon, we've worked too hard to give up now. we just need to take the challenge on the chin and man up, well for my case I will have to women up.

Alexandra Palace

Today we filmed at Alexandra Palace. Given the horrible rain and wind I didn't have the highest of hopes for today's session as I felt it would be cut short.  However once we started filming we were able to exceed the amount of work we wanted to do. With the help of Joseph from another class we were able to shoot some beautiful scenes for the chorus as well as many base tracks. Also the bad weather worked in our favor as we filmed the angry moving clouds , helping the message of our song.

Filming by Esther

Today we went out to film at Alaxandra Palace and it was a successful day. We managed to get most of the last scene done, however, we still have to film the cemetery scene, which we will do another day. The only reason why we didn't do it today was because of the weather. The rain was disgusting and unbearable and I think we have all caught a cold because of it.

I have uploaded photos onto my flickr account to show you some of the things we have done. The link will be left below:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/129876907@N03/shares/402457

Here's the phots all combined in the album, showing the journey filming over the days. A2 Music Video.

We did face a few challenges that we must point out. First and for most the weather. It was raining cats and dogs, then it would stop and then start again. Which was so annoying, but luckily we were able to film just before the rain got so heavy. So we made sure we hade most of what we needed to get done all within that time space. Thankfully we did.

Another issue we had was our memory cards. Due to the fact that we had given our equipment to another group, they told me to take the memory card with me just in case they were to lose it and so I did. However, when I met up with them, on our way to the location, I noticed that I no longer has it with and that I had left it at home on my living room table. Knowing that going home to get it will prolong everything, I had to call apon my younger brother for him to come to meet us at Alexandra palace with the memory card. And he did, so big you up Malachy for forgetting and making you come out in the cold rain.

Another issue we also faced was hearing the sound. Thankfully all our filing was done but we can't hear the sound from it whatsoever, but the sound on the actual device was working just fine. So it's a better of waiting until we're back at college to find out what the issue is and if in fact the clips we did take actually does have sound. As you can clearly see below that we did in fact have sound playing ando ur singing.

Here we have short clip of today's intake of the filming sessino we had today.

Difficulties

The fact that we're a group of only three and have decided to use all of is as artists, brings on some issues we gave to find a way to over come. And that is filming the last scene, this is because it constists of all three of us in that one scene. Meaning that we habe to find someone that will be willing to help us film, considering that it is our day off and everyone is busy revising or working or have other plans
.

However, we have overcome this. Due to the fact that another group had issues with their equipment, I allowed them to use ours last night, as we weren't filming. So due to this, it was kind of like they owed us a favour, so we thankfully we had someone from another group willingly wanting to help us, as we helped them at their time of mean. See sometimes its good to do a good deed. It is also helpful with the fact that he himself is a media student, so he will be good at using the camera and what not. So hopefully today will be a productive day.

What is left - 17/11/15

All that is left to do is a graveyard scene and what was originally a church scene, Unfortunately the only church that considered us was a local church in South East London and they charged £55 per hour. So now we must find an alternative.

Music Video review

The music vide for alright with me has been release earlier today. Which I realised because I follow Wretch on instagram.

This music video keeps the convention of a music video being around 3 1/2 minutes long.
I for one. have always loved Wretch 32's music, not just due to the fact that I know him on a personal level, but because his music is actually wicked. There's something about his style that makes him so universal and its cool. Anyone could listen to his music and really enjoy it. I had the pleasure of watching him performing, though literally for 2 minutes as it was a struggle to get inside wireless. Nevertheless, I still saw him and that's all that matter. He brought out Gigs and it was just great, I was so happy! He just makes me happy.

This video has such a beautiful message. Which is what I love about his music, it always has some type of message that anyone can relate to. Here this song talks about the prejudice within society, how people are misunderstood, when that wasn't even their intentions. This is clearly shown by the various stereotypes it shows within the music video and then the irony of showing that, shame some of you are just full of prejudice and it completely switches it up. To clearly show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

It is set in various places in North London. On West Green Road, where you see the man running from what looks like a policewomen chasing him. It is also set in Tottenham Town Hall where the boys are clearing. It is also set in Edmonton Green where the young boys are hanging around. This is linked to his upbringing, because he grew up in North London, Tottenham, so it is understandable that he would set his music video in the places he can most relate to. This also helps with the message it's bringing out, when people hear you are from a certain area of London or the people you associate yourself with or your race or body language, they are more likely to perceive you in the wrong way, that shouldn't define you as a person, yet it is still such a sad thing because so much people fall victim to these stereotypes. What nonsense. Just as Chip says in the song I'm not the man "The best things can come worst places".

One of the parts of this is the scene at the graduation. It is such a powerful scene because of what it is portraying. It shows how unified a community can be when it comes to noticing the achievement the young people are making. What is also powerful is the specific pupil actually graduating. For instance, when you look at the race of some of the male graduate, it shows that no matter your race, you can achieve in education and make something out of your life. The young black males shows that the stereotype of  this race aren't educated or getting educated and always wind up being in a gang. The fact that they are being acknowledged for it is such a beautiful thing. It goes so well with everything.

The use of costume is significant get helping build the stereotypes that have been constructed by society.

This one above  with the elderly women shows how young men are stereotyped as gang members or people like prey on the elderly, where in the video it shows that, but then after that it shows that it's not actually the case in this specific situation

The irony about this, is the fact that they actual help the elderly and she's comfortable about it.

Another Stereotype that is shown is between the cop and robber like. Especially because the man being chased is a black man. it goes to show that there is meant to be hatred between black men and the police. However, this is soon changed at the end. As the female cop is in a interracial relationship with another black man. It shows now the media loves to promote racism, when in fact we have come such a long way from it.

The transition between the scenes are so good and smooth that it looks so seamless and just comes together so well. And the storyline of the music video works well at showing all these things that I have picked up. Great work once again Wretch!

Aspects of Carol Vernalis' I've identified in this music video are as followed:
1)The use of continuous editing, helping to give the video a structure and providing a tale to follow
2)Jump cuts that are created through the basetracks, giving the song structure once again

From Andrew Goodwin's theory the type of music video this is, is a illustration, as it shows that the music captivates the lyrics very well. It's so simplistic but it works so well in capturing everything.

Ancillary idea

I have come to notice, after yesterday, seeing the previous student's ancillary work, we actually have very similar ideas as they did.
Therefore, this means that we have stuck to the kind of convention this genre of music has. It was also the first time I saw it so I was so surprised. The level of quality in their work really does show through and I hope that we produce something as good as that. In fact, I don't hope that we do, I know that we will. This is a good starting point that we can take some inspiration from. The use of colour and editing and all works very well and its similar to the idea I initially had, so I'm very pleased.

Update on filming schedule by Esther

As you are already aware, the last time we went out to film was on Friday the 13th. And it was a successful day for us, as we managed to shoot Kapone's entire scene and got back up shots too just in case. We even made it back in time to add the shots we produced to the copy of the rough cut we are producing.

Now, due the fact there won't be any college until next Thursday, and our next media lesson won't be until the Friday following. We have decided to take out the equipment we took out with us on Friday and keep it until the Thursday back.

So because of that, we will be filming the rest of the shots that needs to be done on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we have off. As this will enable us to use our time wisely and hopefully be very productive.

You're probably wondering what those days wil consist of. So I will briefly explain the plan we have come up with and add it to our orginal filming schedule.

Tuesday: We plan on getting the last scene of the music video done. This is the scene were all three artists are seem together. Where it will be set in Alexandra Palace and  the cemetery located at White Hart Lane.

Friday: We plan to finally get the church seen done, as we wait for notification from a Church Joel has found. We may also add to Joel's scene, as I feel like though what we have is great, we should also vary the locations that are in the music video, as the different locations is good at making sure the audience doesn't get bored. And this is also inspiration fro mthe previous student music video. I had a look at it yesterday and though that it was very effective in the way they had so much different locations. It gave the song and music video more depth. Therefore, we could also try that out too. We also plan to go out around the city and gather as many establishing shots. These shots will be useful for us as they will fill in the empty places at the start of our music video. Though the intial idea was to only show the faces of the artists, as will as the establishing shots will be effective too, if we add that with the faces of the artists. As UK music videos tend to have a lot of establishing shots, you can also identify that as a convention they have. Which is ehy we want to do that.

Therefore, after all of this is done, we can finally fully work on our rough cut and final product, and then move on to make a start for our ancillary work. I honestly can't wait.

Filming by Esther

Today we are heading out to the Sky Garden to film Kapone scene. Which we looking forwards to. We intend to manipulate the short in order to give the audience the assumption that he's looking out of a window of his penthouse. Therefore symbolising his materalistic achievement. Which will constrat to Kwabz scene as it is situated in a South London estate home. So in a sense we want to represent the binary composition of rich and poor. And hopefully by doing this, we can achieve this successfully.

We used a range of shots, trying to show the setting from different angles, to show different elements of his body language and facial expression. Which you will see in the photos below and the music video after it's all done.

It was a successful day for us overall. We managed to gather so many shots and the poeple were lovely whiles we were filming. No one tried to bother us whatsoever. We also met this lovely old women, who waited for us to stop filming so she could talk to us about what he were doing and she credited the song. She told us about how she has a nepthew in Austrialia who also raps but she hates his music because of all the cussing and what not, but the song roses, she really did like. She said it was beautiful. This goes to show that this song really is reaching out a wider audience, as she was nowhere near our target audience range, so for her to feel a connection, it goes to show that we are doing something right.

The weather was okay, as we were in doors so we didn't have to worry about the rain and the wind. Literally, the only time we noticed how bad the weather was, was when we left the building, that wind was doing a madness.

Our experience there was alright. We managed to get done what we intended even though it was only the two of us( Esther and Tolu). However, due to the fact that the building was full of predominately white people, at times we did feel a little out of place, as everyone was all dressed up, whiles we were looking so urban and street, you could tell we were being judged. We didn't let that bother us either way, we done what was meeted and made our way out.

The area itself is so beautiful. It really is the greater parts of London. We ourselves felt like tourists and now that's saying something. The journey there was straight forward, thankfully we didn't get lost or run late, otherwise we would have missed our slot. The view was amazing, the skyline, everything.

Side note- if you want to enjoy the food down there, you best have some serious money on you, beause down there it is so pricey.

Here is the link to the photos that we captured today whiles filming.

And below, you have the album all the images we've taken so far whiles filming. A2 Music Video.

What is left to do

What was done today.

Esther and Tolu went of to the sky garden to film for Kapone's scenes. The sky garden was good because it was high up with a great view of the city. Here they where able to get plenty of shots of Kapone's bit including inside and outside the buildings.

This is one of the many shots taken by Esther and Tolu today.

Also because I was unable to come to the lesson on time due to unforeseen circumstances I spent the day looking for churches in which we could film the other chorus. However while they all responded to me with a maybe we are still yet to have a confirmed site for our video. As a result I think we need to start thinking about back up places as mall these churches have been unreliable and more or less unsuccesful.
