The music video is done. The CD panels are done. The Website is done. The 4 evaluation questions are done. It is all finally over

Evaluation Question 2

The first thing that linked all our items where the prayer hands. This was our synergy product and we planned to use this during our video, CD and website. I also extended the use of prayer hands to promotional posters and tour posters. Also every one involved in the video had to incorporate prayer hands aswell.

This is the most common link between all 3 products and all the extra ones as well. This is something everyone can relate to for many reasons. One being that everyone has gone through some form of prayer, or hoping for things to change, distraught, pain or agony. The prayer hands symbolise a way people deal with this and prayer is often the most common form of this. While it may have religious connotations I feel everyone can understand and respect the use of prayer hands because of the lose of Kevin. Whether they can relate to the religious side is up for debate but relating to the loss and need for consolation after losing someone is something everyone can relate to.

Ancillary Website Finalised

Reflection on my ancillary planning and ideas

The ancillary task for me has been a mix of a blessing and a curse. I worked very hard on the video and the blogs because I knew I had very poor skills on Photoshop dating back to my days of doing ICT at GCSE. So for my CD and website I have decided to keep it very simple and plain for my own benefit.

Colours
Because I have found it so difficult to use Photoshop and remember what I have done i decided to keep it simple and use a simple plain white background. I took my influence from Stromzy - Dreamer Disease EP.

While it could been as boring and not adventurous i felt it was the only way I would finish on time. I also thought simplicity would be the best for me and it matched my website which i had to do again because I had used a background that wasn't my own and a different image from what I had planned to use for my ancillary.

Text
The Text was a graffiti style font. This keeps to the urban look of the CD. It also was more of a rough look, keeping true to the genre which is more hardcore rather than the first font which looked more elegant and more suited for something like classical.

Look
The look of my CD is plain as i said before. The only image on the website and CD is the two artists facing each other. One reason is because we are trying to give them the persona of Gods. Two individuals in a league of their own, the best way to show this was have them be in the own space, the full focus being on them. Another reason is because it shows the emptiness of what they feel in some of their songs I.E their number 1 hit 'Roses'. A lot of their songs are about losing someone or being neglected and disrespected.

Media Blog Post 53 - Photos for ancillary

The pictures above are all pictures that we may decide to use in our ancillary. They are all fairly good pictures and if we apply some special effects via photoshop, hopefully they will come out in exceptional quality.

Media Blog Post 54 - Costumes.

The costumes used for the ancillary will likely be one of the following...
This image was chosen because it was taken while we filmed our final scenes. This was good because we all looked good, dressed up for the final bit and the two pictures taken were worthy of a CD cover. It also shows continuity between our

Another image we will likely use is one of the picture we took at our practice ancillary lesson. These photos were taken early on but the positions one of the photos that was taken was really good. It was the same position as Krept and Konan were in their album cover and having something similar would show how we are paying homage to them. This image along with the name Icon shows how we are showing respect to two of grimes best artists.

Media blog Post 52 - Do's and Don'ts

Do's

  • Stick to two clear fonts as a maximum. Make sure that they complement each other and are appropriate for the genre that you are following
  • Stick to three colors as a maximum. Make sure that they go together well
  • Make sure you are using clear photos that are in focus. Make sure that they are the appropriate shot-sized for the size of your pane
  • Follow the rule of thirds for composition
  • Remember to include bar code, date, copyright information, title of the album, artist name, record company logo, website and artists website.

Don't
  • Use unnecessary effects. Any text or image effects must suit the genre. Don't go mad using Photoshop.
  • Stretch images to fit the panel - if the image isn't the right size to start with then dump it! Stretched images lose marks.
  • Place text across the face of the artist.
  • Use fonts simply because you like them...

Media Blog Post 51 - Where the ideas came from

Media Blog Post 50 (Part 2) - Colours and Design Ideas

The colours of our ancillary are very important. They need to match our theme , our characters and our songs. Our song is a rather sad , relatable song therefore the colours need to replicate our message which is why it is very important to consider colour despite it seeming like a small thing. As a result some of the colours I have considered include:

  • Red
  • Black
  • grey
  • white
  • Cream
  • Mixture of black grey and other dark colours
I chose these colours because firstly they are commonly used throughout music and ancillary work. Therefore sticking to the common conventions would make the most sense. I also chose these colours because they seem to fit our work more i.e red is the colour of the rose so that would be a direct link. Black and grey are often colours of despair, hatred and anger, which are all characteristics that are shown by our two main male characters. I chose white and cream however because that gives the idea of hope after losing someone , similar to the ray of light shown repeatedly throughout our music video.

In terms of design it would be wise t use existing work we already have seen. The most obvious one would be 'Krept and Konan - The Long Way Home'. As we used their work it would be a fitting tribute to make a similar cover to their own and we have already started taking similar images.

This is almost the perfect image to use as inspiration as the song came from this album , our characters are almost mirroring them perfectly. The destruction in the background is an example of the recurring theme throughout the album.

However if we didn't want to add our characters we could in fact use an object. With the name of the song being roses we could place an image of a rose in the background of an all black panel. The rose could be bright right or if we wanted to contrast it we could have it be a dying rose. We could then have a faded image of the artists in the background , clear enough to see but not so clear that it takes focus away from the rose. While this can be seen as a quick and easy way out it has been done before many times by other artists.

Media Blog Post 50 - Fonts

FONTS

Each of these fonts have a unique aspect about them which would make them ideal for out ancillary project. Given the criteria we have been given to use it would be beneficial if we potentially used on of these in my opinion for the following reasons.

This font 'El Valiente' is a rather thick black font. This would be ideal because it would stand out on our digipak. The name would jump out and the audience would be able to recognise it easily.

This particular Font is called 'Colonna MT'. While it is not as bold and thick as the other one there is something that gives it its own identity. This font is rather classy and sophisticated. This on our ancillary work would convey a message we explained during our pitch which is the song we chose and the way we chose to do it is to appeal to both typical grime audiences as well as a different demographic. Rather than taking an approach where we use big black font like most people would we could use a font that doesn't look like it belongs on a grime cd however will fit well with ours.
This last font is called 'Travelling typewriter. While the first font stands out because it is thick and black and the other stands out because it is more sophisticated this takes a more urban look. It looks more like graffiti than the others , giving it a more grime feel.
